Wilcox G24 vs. G24 Lite: What’s the Difference?

Wilcox G24 vs. G24 Lite: What’s the Difference?

At Custom Night Vision, we often get asked: What’s the difference between the Wilcox G24 and the G24 Lite night vision mounts? Both mounts are industry-leading choices for securely attaching your night vision devices, and the differences are subtle—but worth clarifying.

In this post, we’ll break down the similarities, differences, and key considerations when choosing between the two.

The Similarities Between the G24 and G24 Lite

Both the Wilcox G24 and the G24 Lite mounts are designed with the same high-quality construction that Wilcox Industries is known for. These mounts provide:

  • Secure and repeatable lock-up for night vision devices
  • Adjustable height and tilt for user comfort
  • Proven reliability in professional and civilian applications

In other words, you can’t go wrong with either option—they’re both excellent mounts that will serve you well.

Key Difference: The Carrier

The main difference between the G24 and the G24 Lite is in the carrier—the sliding component that moves up and down on the mount’s bar.

  • G24 Carrier:
The standard G24 includes magnets in its carrier. These magnets were originally designed to interface with certain J-arms, enabling an auto-off function when flipping a PVS-14 night vision monocular up and out of the way.
  • G24 Lite Carrier:
The G24 Lite uses the same skeletonized carrier found on the G69 mount. It does not include magnets, since the auto-off function is no longer widely necessary. This slight redesign reduces some material while maintaining full strength and durability.

Weight Difference

One of the reasons Wilcox introduced the G24 Lite was to streamline the carrier. While you might expect a significant weight savings, the difference is minimal. In testing, the G24 Lite came in only about 15 grams lighter than the standard G24.

So while it’s technically lighter, this difference is negligible in real-world use.

Which One Should You Choose?

When it comes down to it, the choice between the Wilcox G24 and the G24 Lite really doesn’t carry much consequence.

  • If you find a G24 available, it’s an excellent, proven mount.
  • If the G24 Lite is in stock, it will serve you equally well.

Both mounts deliver the same core performance. Availability may be the deciding factor more than technical differences.

Final Thoughts

The Wilcox G24 and G24 Lite mounts are both top-tier options for anyone looking to run night vision securely and reliably. While the Lite features a slightly different carrier design and sheds a few grams of weight, the overall performance and durability remain the same.
